Duraweld named in Sunday Times ‘Best Green Companies’ list

Duraweld is celebrating two new accolades for its commitment to environmentally friendly business practices this week, as it features in the third annual edition of The Sunday Times Best Green Companies list and scoops one of the top prizes in the Binding Industries Association (BIA) Awards.

Competing against companies from across the US in the BIA Awards ‘Product of Excellence’ category, Duraweld entered a specially designed travel card holder made from their own 100% recycled polypropylene. The company adapted its standard vinyl travel card product using sonic welding instead of a heat sealing manufacturing process, producing wallets which were both environmentally and ethically sound, as well as attractive and durable.

The BIA Judges commented: “We were very impressed with the design and use of materials. The travel card holder is creative, very practical and it really stood out amongst the other entries.”

In The Sunday Times, Duraweld was ranked 39 out of 60 companies throughout the UK, and featured in the Top Ten for having the ‘greenest employees’.  According to The Sunday Times, “…competition for places in the Top 60 was intense and the quality of entries very high. Only those organisations demonstrating the highest environmental standards, with workforces wholly engaged and in tune with their green initiatives, have made it onto the list.”

Victoria Pitts, Durawelds’ Green Team leader said: “It is very rewarding to have our green initiatives and products recognised by both these organisations and it positions us as being up there amongst the best in employing environmentally friendly business practices. Our commitment to protecting the environment remains firm and we will continue to improve and develop both our internal processes and our recycled product ranges.”

These two new accolades support Duraweld’s ISO 14001 accreditation and carbon zero status.
