Morfitts wins raft of new contracts worth £2.88 million

Chris Kenworthy, MorfittsBuilding services engineers Morfitts has announced it has been awarded three new contracts worth a total of £2.88 million.

In Leeds, the company has just started a project at Leeds Trinity University College. Construction company Morgan Ashurst has awarded Morfitts a £920,000 contract to provide all the building services for a new 198-bedroom student accommodation facility on the campus at Horsforth, Leeds.  The project is due for completion in August 2010.

In Wisbech, the company is working on a fully automated cold store, which is being built by Dutch company Partner Logistic.  Once completed, the £50 million building will act as a distribution hub for frozen food producers from across the UK, operating at a constant minus 28 degrees centigrade.  The 33 metre high warehouse, which is supported by its sophisticated internal racking system, will be able to hold 73,000 pallets of goods at any one time.  Morfitts’ contract, valued at £960,000, is to install all the mechanical and electrical services to both the warehouse area and the attached three storey office building in a tight, 20 week schedule, due for completion next February.

Back in the education sector and working once again with main contractor Allenbuild, Morfitts has been awarded the £1 million building services contract for the new exemplar Sandal Magna Junior and Infants School in Wakefield.   Due for completion in Spring 2010, the project features an energy saving, ground source heat pump system that will provide hot water and part of the heating for the school, and an unusual pipe work installation designed to make ‘on view’ pipe work appear as if it has grown out of the ground.

Paul Baldwin, Morfitts’ Divisional Contracts Director said   “Whilst it is a very challenging climate at the moment, our reputation for providing excellent value for money, a quality product and consistently great service has been the key in helping us secure new work.  We have a very busy schedule ahead and will continue to develop our relationships with main contractors and clients by listening to their needs and delivering exactly what they want, how and when they want it.”
