Wild about Wood Festival exceeds expectations!
The sun shone, the crowds came, and the first ever Wild about Wood Festival was officially declared an outstanding success!
Organised by The Arboretum Trust, Kew at Castle Howard, the festival welcomed over 2,500 visitors to the event held on the 12th and 13th September in the grounds of the glorious Arboretum at Castle Howard.
Wild about Wood, which will now run annually, included demonstrations and interactive exhibits of all things wood. As well as browsing the dozens of arts and crafts stalls in the main marquee, visitors could also try their hand at wood turning, tree climbing, willow weaving, tree stump sculpting, furniture making, basket-making and heavy horse logging, plus enjoy mini-tours of the Arboretum itself.
For the more intrepid visitor there was the opportunity to paddle a coracle on the Arboretum’s lake and the Discovery Zone invited younger visitors to investigate the inhabitants of the Arboretum Lake, Meet a Tree, learn about building with oak or go for an “explorienteer”!
The first Wild about Wood festival which was a huge success, will now become an annual event. We are thrilled that so many people were able to explore the Arboretum and enjoy a good day out. Anna Porter, Project Manager, Wild about Wood
